Scooter was guilty of what specific crime, a faulty memory? Isn't the mantra something about a guilty man going free instead of an innocent man doing time? He's not going to prison, good. Money saved and space for a real criminal. He's still paying $250K at least for the time being. More money than I'll ever see.

Wilson's case, I did hear about this one a while back I think. I'm troubled by the apparent hypocrisy. If she said it was non-consensual sex then isn't it rape? No means No right? Underage girls can't consent, so by definition it's rape. However I fully agree that it's a crock, as is the whole scarlet lettering these days. If anything should fall under cruel and unusual punishment the lifelong sentence and mandate to report to the government sure as heck does. If you do the time you're supposed to have repaid your debt to society, after all, wasn't that the point of prison? To be punished and rehabilitated. I guess that went out the window when the justice system became the legal system. Singling out one group of criminals is discrimination, so either we label, database, and monitor ALL criminals for life or these guys have paid their debt. Furthermore, assuming it was consensual, who cares? "Children" often married at younger ages, and in some parts of the world still do.

I'm not familiar with the last and the link doesn't work, but if it's what I just saw a 12 year old was shot after failing to put down a toy gun. Honestly there's enough blame to go around. Parents, the victim, the police. A tragic situation, but one that could have been avoided with parenting for starters. Weapons are probably the oldest human invention, and until utopia (no place)they'll be with us. During human history parents and those older have taught their children the proper use as well as the cultural significance and safe behavior when using them. Children were taught this at a young age. Speaking as someone who was on the wrong end of a belt for wanting to "play" with guns in an inappropriate manner (unsupervised and not following the rules
) Where were his parents? Where was the respect for authority? Yeah, citizens shouldn't have to "follow orders" as is always argued, but at 12 years old with a gun pointed back at you, you do what you're told. As one who hates the militarization of the police and the shoot first attitude, where was the much touted taser, or even the magical pepper spray? As I said, blame to go around. Tragic, but avoidable and hopefully a lesson to others so this can be avoided in the future. Not by banning toys, but by teaching children that things have a time and place, by remembering that the police are untouchable and answer to a lower standard then you or I would, and that children these days need to be taught respect for authority, other people, and life.

I really hope that last one was the correct story and I didn't just react to something else.

It was totally the right story, and I agree with you on so many levels. But the problem that I have with it and the reason I feel that there is injustice here, is because the officers are not facing any REAL reprimand! They on a two week PAID suspension.

As far as Scooter, that $250K is like pocket change. It won't really hurt him in the end. With Genarlow's case, he thought the girl was of age, they had consensual sex and neither the daughter or her parents were the ones to press charges. The state pressed charges. Now this young man isn't even able to be privy to a fair trial! It's blatantly unfair. Is there ANY actual justice in this nation?
